I JUST LOVED MY DAY, DESPITE WALKING OVER 30 Km!
Hi All:
I had no wifi yesterday! Lots to show you PLUS I REACHED 1 MILLION STEPSÂ YESTERDAY!
Today, I must have been exhausted because I misread the distance on my map! My foot ached so much yesterday that I decided to send my pack ahead. I sent it to an albergue in the town of GONZAR! It was only after I set out for the day that I realized my mistake! GONZAR is 8.1 Km beyond Portomarin! I thought Portomarin was only 16 Km from Sarria ( my starting point!). Portomarin is 22.3 Km away! I WALKED 30.4 Km today! Â Ugh!
GUESS WHAT? THE NEW GEL PADS I PUT IN ALONG WITH STRONGER ADVIL TOOK 80% OF MY PAIN AWAY!! Â Woo Hoo!
WHY I LOVED MY WALK SO MUCH TODAY!
Today was one of the more peaceful walks I have ever had on the Camino. It was mostly flat, not rocky, and within several oak forests. The was a gentle fog and mist all day. The sun did not appear until after 2 pm!
I was mesmerized by the forests today. The rocks, the moss, the greens and earth tones just made me feel so at peace. I became intoxicated by nature today. The mist made everything seem so serene!
Today’s photos may bore you, but to me, they are exceptional! All along the way, the forests were separated by towns. This is the area (Province) known as Galicia! Rain, fog, and mist are common things here. ENJOY THE PHOTOS!
The town I left at 8 am this morning!
Who knew that spider webs were so beautiful?
PORTOMARIN: The Town that Sank!
To enter the town, you must cross a large and lengthy bridge, which crosses the darned river Miño. Above the river and high on the slopes is the new town of PortomarÃn; the former town sank in the 60s in the barrier lake. See photos!
Church San Nicolás . (also San Juan) Romanesque fortified church which was torn-down, stone-by-stone, during the construction of the barrier lake and then rebuilt up here, true to the original. You can still see the systematic numbering on the stones.
NOTE THE FREAKING STAIRS YOU MUST CLIMB TO ENTER THE TOWN!
