To Hike is Everything!
Today was a beautiful walk out of our town, Zariquiegui. It was a phenomenal day to hike. The cool winds were fresh but it was amazing!
Our hike today brought us to a high point of the foothills of one of the escarpments of the Pyrenees on the Spanish side of the border to France.
We climbed to a place that honors all pilgrims who’ve walked before us called, alto Alto del Perdon.
The morning was cool in the clouds were in place to make it a fantastic morning walk up the hill to the windmills. It was a slow and steady climb! Once at the top, we took photos.
We then braced ourselves because we had a steep descent on loose rock into some smaller Spanish towns – Uterga, Obanos, and our final stop Puenta la Reina.
Today I just simply enjoyed the scenery. I enjoyed taking many beautiful photos, and I enjoyed thinking about my family and friends at home that I am missing.
I must say that I am ever grateful for having the opportunity to hike El Camino for a second time. Each day I see something I’ve never seen before and it just reminds me about being at home and making sure I take time to stop and observe my surroundings and be grateful for them.
Each town today had its own little character and each was characterized by a small or grand church.
I love the churches of the small towns because some of them are ornate and spectacular while others are just as simple and it’s plain as can be.
More Towns, More Churches!
It truly was a spectacular hiking day in every sense of the word and I had the best company in the world for doing it with.
MY FAVOURITE BRIDGE in Puenta La Reina!
Today’s blog is full of many photographs and I am now resting at our place for the night and taking care of my back which has been sore off and on.
My Spanish-speaking skills are getting better and more and more people are understanding me.
I am beginning to take more risks and becoming more fluent in my conversations.
We are hiking a lot, burning a lot of calories, seeing a lot of scenery, and laughing so much. I think I’m still eating more calories than I burn! Lol
