A Peaceful, Reflective, Serene, and Important Memorial.
I am home from my trip to the United Kingdom and was going through my hundreds of photos yesterday. I know I mentioned this place periodically but I didn’t really devote much time to it on my blog. I’m talking about the Canadian War Memorial at the Canada Gate right beside Buckingham Palace. I was quite impressed at the memorial put up to honour the Canadians that came to fight along side with Britain.
A friend saw my photo from Buckingham Palace and emailed me to say go and look at this Canadian Memorial. I was told it is right through the Canada Gate.
I was in awe and how impressive the Canada gate was. I really wasn’t expecting this.
The Memorial is pretty Special. It’s design is simple and it is two large panels that are tilted upwards with water flowing over the slate. Embossed on the slate are various Maple leaves that look like they have been wind blown and fallen on the ground. It’s truly beautiful and very peaceful and the flowing water with the embossed leaves just adds a special touch.

My blog is about places that I go and places that invoke deep feelings for me
This memorial did that, so I felt it worthy of its own post
It’s incredible how the Canadian War Memorial manages to be both simple and deeply moving. The design with the flowing water and embossed maple leaves really captures the essence of remembrance. I think the tranquillity of it and this simplicity makes it phenomenal
The moving water over the Bronze Maple leafs create movement and sound that allows you to really reflect while you’re standing there
