My Visit to the Royal Palace of Madrid!
This morning I left my hotel with Angela and Helen and we decided to have a lovely breakfast and walk over to the Royal Palace of Madrid! We were there two days ago but it was closed due to a holiday. We were determined to see how beautiful this building looked on the inside because from the outside, it’s magical!
We had a lovely walk through the streets of Madrid and of course saw some more buildings with amazing architecture!
The Royal Palace was unreal! I was especially enamoured by this building because I’ve spent two years reading about the history of the royal families of Spain. I have particularly taken an interest in the Catholic Queen Isabella and her family/descendants.
As you can see from the photos below The Palace was magnificent.
All of the different parlour rooms that we toured (and there were many) were SPECTACULAR!
(These are Internet photos just of these rooms because you’re for bidden to take your own when you’re touring the palace).
I think they were the most spectacular and they caused my imagination to run wild.
I couldn’t help but to go back to memories I’ve had of certain television series or places I visited when I would dream about living back in those times.
Have you ever seen Downton Abbey?
The entire time I watched that series, I envisioned what it would be like to live upstairs and I certainly envisioned the most wonderful life I would have had! I truly think that I would have been amazingly happy living in that modest home during that time.
Deep down I know that if I had I been alive in that time, I most likely would’ve been sequestered to living downstairs (as a servant) and only coming upstairs with trays of food or clean wash basins to exchange for dirty wash basins! I wonder what the thread count on their sheets were and where the cotton came from? 😂😂😂
Have you ever heard of Newport Rhode Island? Home on the Vanderbilt Family (Anderson Cooper’s Family)?
I toured through both of the Vanderbilt homes many years ago and was filled with fantasies of living in those homes and growing up on those estates and dreaming of how wonderful life would have been.
I can still vividly recall going to bed that night and spending the whole night dreaming of a summer at the mansion and all the joy I had.
I also vividly recall waking up the next morning and seeing the roof of the bedroom above my head. I was startled, shocked in fact. I panicked and immediately thought; this isn’t the Vanderbilt mansion. I closed my eyes and chanted “ I want to be a Vanderbilt, I want to be a Vanderbilt”. I tried to fall back into a deep sleep. I wanted to re-live that dream. I opened my eyes again and I realized that I wasn’t a Vanderbilt! 😢😢😢
Did The Same Thing Happen at The Royal Palace?
Yes my imagination went wild today. How could it not? WHAT A PALACE!!!
Each room was magnificent! The bedrooms, the breakfast room, the areas where they received visitors, the party rooms, the private room, the rooms lined in silk, porcelain, silk, and the 70 seat dining room!
What was it like to live in such luxury and sleep in a room that was just so opulent?
Just imagine! I did and my face was hurting from the smile on it!
But all that joy came to a crashing end when we enter the room where the two throne chairs were placed!
After seeing all the crown jewels in one room we entered another where the two red velvet throne chairs were placed all covered in gold. I realized immediately that I probably would never of been of royal blood and ever sat in one of those chairs!
Most likely I would’ve been the person who cleaned them along with all the floors in the tapestries and the silks. It saddens me to think that I most likely would’ve been somewhat of a slave in that beautiful opulent Palace !😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
My bedroom would’ve most likely of resembled one of the Albergue’s that I’ve slept in on the Camino. 50 servants on twin bunk beds crammed into one room with a bed pan for everyone to share. No Egyptian cotton on those beds!
For a brief time today I was joyously happy and then I had to go for a Vino Tinto after visiting the castle just to bring me back to reality.
Goodbye Madrid, for now! I love your sunsets, I am almost everything else about this city.
Tomorrow I fly off to Portugal to prepare for the next Camino
