Even Overcast Days Are Lovely in Spain

Hopefully This is My Last Slow Day !

I feared the day I would have a migraine and today was that day. I could have walked today, but opted for a bus ride to the next town. I did not have it on me to start in the light rain and haul my pack and I2 Km. My migraines are my nemesis! Obviously I am drinking too much vino tinto! We are in the Rioja Wine Region in Spain!

Our group split today into hikers and those who struggled with pain management. Tomorrow I will get back on track! We will re-form as a group.

I did walk into town as the bus dropped us off right on the highway 1.5 km from town. Only in Spain could this happen. I am loving Spain more and more each day!

These are photos as I took as we entered  Ventosa today!

A far away look.

Ventosa was once a town directly on the Camino route. Once the new highway was built, the Camino trail had to be diverted 1.5 km away from Ventosa. It truly is a lovely town and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is just stunning!

We stayed in a private hotel that offered exquisite rooms in a homestead with a great wine cellar and fabulous melas!

THIS HOTEL WAS AMAZING! The food, décor, ambiance, cleanliness are worth the detour from the Camino ( a SHORT DETOUR)

We found this hotel by mistake! My Favourite Mistake by Cheryl Crow is now my new single! LOL

  1. Sorry about your migraine Dan. That can’t be any fun. Excedrin Migraine alleviated mine quickly, and especially after red wine 🙂 Thanks again for the beautiful photos. I’m impressed with the abundance of churches, and really enjoyed the wildflowers you posted. Hope you have recovered and are enjoying “the walk”.

  2. Wow, Dan – I am so proud of you! Your journey is inspiring and I so appreciate your thoughts and photos. Love the ones of the wildflowers. Hope you are migraine free today.
    Blessings, Alice

  3. Dan,

The farmacia is amazing in Europe. Go to one and get their migraine medicine as they have a rub on stick as well as a pill you put under your tongue. Also, a friend here told me that she has been given a muscle relaxer pill by the doctor that has done miracles for her.

Have fun as I know you are,
    Sylvia

  4. I got whip lash years ago and get terrible headaches from time to time usually from carrying something heavy or for to long If I feel a headache coming on I put on a neck brace for a while and it usually eases the tension in the back of my neck if it is really bad I will also use Arthritis tylenal and rest for a while
I used a grocery cart for my back pack and hooked it up to a small bike pack I wore on my back This took the pressure off of my back and neck and when I would feel like a headache was coming on I’d put on the neck brace
