A CHURCH ON EVERY CORNER
I spent today touring Santiago and was I ever surprised by the multitude of churches!
Aside from the grand Cathedral, St. Martin Church was really unbelievable and had its own museum.
Now one church in particular caught my attention. I was able to go inside it today. It had 2 different spellings of its name!
San Augustine or Santo Agostino?
It appears that both are right! Why was I so interested? My dad’s name was Augustine (as called by his mother) OR Agostino ( as called by his father). My family will see the humour!
The church was in Praza de Santa Agostino and on Rua de Santo Agostino BUT named Iglesia de San Augustine.
It was a very small church but quite beautiful inside. I asked a man just before mass started today why there are 2 names for the church? It even had Santo Agostino inside on a sign. The man replied “no hay dos nombres. es la iglesia de San AgustÃne . la iglesia de San Agostino . su mismo nombre ! “
This is what he said to me:
There are not two names. It is Saint Agustine’s Church, Saint Agostino’s Church. Its the same name!” Â I said oh yes of course and left laughing!
Photos from the rest of my day!
A Special Re-Union
Kathy, Dieter, and I all started back on day 1. Dieter left the group in Pamplona and Kathy, in Leon. Dieter finished a while ago and has been to Finisterre, Muxia and back.
Kathy finished today and I saw her as she came into Santiago.
We all shared dinner and many laughs tonight!
KEEP WALKING!
When u said there was a church on every corner, it reminded me of my childhood. That is what it was like in my small town Dan. Now it is so different. Those times were the best!?
Congrats! Enjoy your time and I hope you get to meet up with everyone before you leave ! Enjoy!
